Ten Women

Year

Material

terracotta, porcelain, slip

Size

each piece approx. 9 x 9 x 16 cm

Combining drawings and ceramics, the series Ten Women pays tribute to ten Indian women who brought about changes in society in various fields, from music to justice through to physics and education.

The drawings celebrate highlights from each of these ten women’s lives in sepia tones, as a way to remember their courage and achievements. The choice of materials for the ceramic pieces is also symbolic. The terracotta base acts as an earthy foundation, while the tribute piece itself is made of porcelain, a material with connotations of strength, power, and beauty. The visuals and texts on the surface display gradient tones, reminding that women's contributions often get erased from history.

The series aims to awaken curiosity, to invite viewers to discover more about the extraordinary lives of these ten women and ultimately to remember them.
