Inside Out

Year

Material

terracotta, distemper paint

Size

each piece approx. 20 x 16 cm

The Inside Out series is based on observations of architectural features and aspects of life around the village of Ichol in Maihar, India. The work is a response to in-situ sketches revealing layered spaces and juxtaposed daily life objects. It celebrates the soft curves of the traditional mud houses which are slowly disappearing in favour of concrete structures.

The Inside Out series was created in the context of Dwelling, a residency curated by Reyaz Badaruddin at Art Ichol. The artists were invited to respond to the locality through their work, and their responses were combined as one unified space.
