Roots, a Mandala

Year

Material

red earthenware clay, distemper paint

Size

1 meter x 1 meter approximately

As part of a quest to understand the origin of her hereditary skin condition, the artist drew a mandala as a way to connect intuitively to the past and bring some healing to the present. The drawing was subsequently translated into ceramics. The making process and the interpretation transformed the mandala while giving it physicality. Its colourful components, which can be arranged in multiple ways, found echo in the playful creativity of the artist’s young daughter who participated in arranging the final display, thereby connecting past and present even further.
